Toronto Long Term Disability Lawyers

Representing People in Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance Claims

If you have become disabled through an accident, injury or any other cause, you may be able to claim benefits under a private or employer-sponsored long-term disability insurance policy. At Reybroek Barristers in Toronto, we make sure our disabled clients obtain all the benefits to which they are entitled under the terms of their long-term disability insurance policy.

Without a lawyer on your side, your long-term disability insurance claim may be denied or the benefits may be delayed. In some cases, disabled people find that their benefits are terminated by the insurance company.

Setting You Up for Failure

The insurance company may decide that you are no longer disabled, even though you aren't really able to return to work. If you accept its determination and go back to work before you are ready, the insurer is setting you up for failure on the job. This can leave you out of benefits, out of work and too disabled to seek other employment. Don't take that risk. Let us advise you. We have helped disabled people in Toronto and throughout Ontario resolve complicated long-term disability insurance issues.

When it comes to long-term disability, it does not matter how you were injured. The disability could be from age, disease, an accident or any other cause. In most employment-provided disability insurance cases, you will receive about two thirds of your wages for the first two years of your disability if you are unable to perform your own job.

Who Decides if You Are Disabled?

After the initial two-year period, you will continue to receive disability benefits only if you cannot perform any job at all — not just your own. If you do not meet this test, you will be expected to go back to work.

Just because your employer or the insurance company says you don't pass the test doesn't mean it is true. Disabled people have rights, and we fight to protect them.
